Term 3 Gymnastics

We have been very lucky to be able to continue to have our gymnastics program in Term 3 with all the Covid restrictions. Students will head to the Armidale Gymnastics Centre for the first four weeks of term to work with Mr O'Hara and his staff on developing their gross motor, balance and movement skills. Mr O'Hara has commented on the development of St Mary's students as they build on their gymnastics skills each year and develop greater confidence.

St Mary's Athletics Team

The students listed below have qualified to attend the Diocesan Athletics Carnival to be held in Tamworth on Friday 13th August.

Polding Cross Country

At the end of Term 2 Lucy Bible and Mason Schaefer headed down to Eastern Creek for Polding Cross Country. They both performed well in very strong fields with Lucy achieving 29th place in her age division and Mason coming in at 30th.

Lucy said she enjoyed catching up with the other students selected from the Armidale Diocese and Mason enjoyed the experience of attending a Polding event with hopes to be selected for more next year.

Well done both of you.

Diocesan Cricket Trials

On Monday, the top cricketers from Year 6 headed to Tamworth for the Diocesan Cricket Trials. These had been postponed last term due to wet weather and we were fortunate to have them go ahead with the current COVID restrictions and recent wet weather.

Darcy Lawlor, Jacob Ahern and George Douglas-Menzies attended the trials.

Jacob said he had a great time and really enjoyed meeting the players from other schools.

George said he improved his batting by having a full day to work on it.

Darcy said that the day was run really well and the venue was great. He also made some new friends with boys from Moree and Inverell. The boys also wanted to thank Jacob's dad Will for putting up with them on the drive down and back.

Darcy did really well on the day and was selected in the squad heading to Lismore for the Polding Selection Trials.

Well done boys.

Polding Rugby Trials

At the end of Term 2 George Douglas-Menzies and Sam Lawry attended the Polding Selection Trials in Forbes as part of the Armidale Diocesan team.

The team played 4 pool games over the day against Bathurst, Wilcannia-Forbes, Lismore and Hunter-Maitland. George scored a couple of tries and Sam crossed for a try as well. Their results after the pool games were 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses but both boys were selected to play in the possibles and probables match in the same position and on opposite teams. The possibles and probables match resulted in a draw and both boys were selected in the Polding team heading to State Trials in Mudgee.

George said he enjoyed the challenge and being able to see how he stacked up against some really good players.

Sam said he is thankful for the friendships that he made and the challenge of making teams with such good players.

Both boys want to thank George's mum Edwina for taking the time out to take them to Forbes and bring them back safe and sound.
