REFLECTION

JULY: THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

The month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood. This began with the early Fathers. They believed the Church came from the pierced side of Christ. The blood from this is seen to be the origin of the Sacraments. We are reminded of the preciousness of this blood that was spilled for us during Mass. After consecration the wine is no longer wine, but the Precious Blood of Jesus.

This is a good opportunity for us to take time and reflect on how we have responded to the spilling of Christ's blood for us. Are we engaging fully in our Sacraments, including Reconciliation. How do we share with others our response?

“O Blood and Water,

which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus

as a Fount of Mercy for us,

I trust in You.”
