The Living Well, Learning Well Framework

The Classroom as First Site of Recognition, Participation and Well-being

Students are in classrooms most of the day. The classroom and the class are the first and most significant site and social setting of recognition and participation.

It is important therefore that the classroom is characterised by excellent teaching, a team setting that favours collaborative strategies and dispositions, and a calm, welcoming climate. The most significant work we do in our classrooms at St Mary’s is to foster a collaborative student-centred approach to teaching that is safe and inclusive. It is important that our students feel like they are part of a team. This then positions our students in the best place to participate and contribute as valued equals.
