Pride Day Celebration

During June our school celebrated pride by providing students and staff with an opportunity to learn, reflect and celebrate diversity within our school community.

Throughout the day, students explored the history of Pride and learn about the events and people who have helped shape the LGBTQIA+ rights movement. Understanding this history is an important part of recognising how far society has come, while also acknowledging the work that continues today to create safe and inclusive communities.

As part of the celebrations, students will had the opportunity to watch a documentary about Georgie Stone, an Australian LGBTQIA+ advocate and activist. The documentary provides an opportunity to learn about Georgie's experiences and advocacy, encouraging students to consider the importance of acceptance, equality and being able to be yourself.

We will also welcome a guest speaker who will discuss a range of topics, including pronouns, LGBTQIA+ terminology and the history of Pride. This session gave students a chance to develop their understanding, ask respectful questions and learn how language can help create a more welcoming environment for everyone.
