Road to Zero

Recently, the entire school enjoyed an exciting and educational excursion to the Road to Zero experience at the Melbourne Museum. Travelling together by train, students had the opportunity to explore one of Victoria's leading road safety education programs while learning valuable life skills in a fun and interactive environment.

The day began with everyone participating in the immersive Road to Zero exhibition. Through a range of hands-on activities, students discovered how road safety has evolved over time by exploring the history of vehicles, changes in road design, and the latest technologies helping to make our roads safer. Students also learned about the important vision behind the program—to achieve zero deaths and serious injuries on Victorian roads by 2050.

Following the exhibition, classes took part in specialised workshops tailored to different learning areas. Blue and Purple Class attended an engaging Physics session where they investigated stopping distances using interactive digital displays. Students explored how speed, reaction time and braking distance all contribute to road safety and gained a greater understanding of the science behind safe driving.

Meanwhile, Orange Class participated in a creative road safety workshop, where students explored key road safety messages before designing and producing their own road safety advertisements. This activity encouraged students to think critically about how positive messages can influence safer behaviours on our roads.

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to combine science, creativity and real-world learning while developing a greater appreciation for road safety. It was wonderful to see all students actively participating, asking thoughtful questions and representing the school so positively throughout the day.
