Year 9 Italian

Cultural Lesson: Making Zeppole
The Year 9 Italian class recently took part in a cultural lesson focused on zeppole, a traditional Italian sweet associated with La Festa di San Giuseppe (St Joseph’s Day). Celebrated on 19 March, this feast day honours St Joseph, the patron saint of fathers, and is widely regarded as Italy’s equivalent of Father’s Day. It is traditionally marked by family gatherings, shared food and acts of generosity within the community.
As part of this tradition, students learned how zeppole are prepared and enjoyed. They first watched a demonstration by Professor Raschella before each having the opportunity to make their own. The process involved carefully shaping the dough using two spoons, frying it in oil and finishing it with a coating of sugar and cinnamon.
All students participated with respect, motivation and maturity, making this a meaningful and engaging way to conclude their Term 1 Italian studies.
