Mazenod College took to the pool with determination and pride at the ACC A Division Swimming Carnival, held at HBF Stadium on Wednesday, 25 March. Competing against some of the strongest swimming schools in the competition, our students displayed grit, resilience and an unwavering commitment to earning every possible point for the College.

From the first race to the final relay, Mazenod swimmers embraced the challenge, pushing themselves in every event and supporting one another throughout the day. While the competition was fierce, the team’s spirit and effort never wavered, reflecting the true character of Mazenod.

There were several standout performances across the carnival. Charles W delivered an exceptional swim in the Boys Under 17 50m Backstroke, clocking an impressive 28.36 seconds and setting a new ACC record - a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for the College. Charles’ performance was further recognised when he was crowned Under 17 Champion Boy.

Adding to the accolades, Aaden K also enjoyed an outstanding carnival, earning the title of Under 16 Champion Boy after a series of strong performances across his events. Both swimmers demonstrated excellence and consistency, leading by example in the pool.

At the conclusion of the carnival, Mazenod finished eighth overall in the boys’ competition. While this was not the result the team had hoped for, it does not reflect the effort, determination and small victories achieved throughout the day. Many swimmers recorded personal bests, stepped up in challenging races and contributed valuable points to the team tally.

The College community should be proud of the way our students represented Mazenod - with courage, persistence and sportsmanship. Their efforts in and out of the water exemplify what it means to compete with pride.

Well done to all swimmers and coaches on a commendable day at the pool. A special thank you to team coaches Mr Mallon and Mr Pendal for their support with coaching and the early morning training sessions.

Mazenod College has secured a place in the Graeme Wood Shield Grand Final following an impressive semi-final victory over Newman College on home soil.

After winning the toss, Mazenod elected to bat and made their intentions clear from the outset. Ashton S set the tone with a blistering 29 off just 15 deliveries, giving the innings early momentum. He was well supported by Hamish S (18) and Mitchell G (15), while Dominic B anchored the innings superbly, finishing unbeaten on 37. Their combined efforts propelled Mazenod to a competitive total of 6/142 from 20 overs.

In response, Newman College began confidently and kept themselves in contention throughout much of the chase. However, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding from Mazenod turned the tide in the latter stages. Despite their strong start, Newman fell short of the target, finishing at 7/136.

The bowling attack was led brilliantly by William H, who claimed 3/30, while Luca C (2/26) and Samuel A (2/31) provided crucial support to restrict the opposition.

With this win, Mazenod College now looks ahead to the Grand Final, set to be played at the WACA on Wednesday against Chisholm College.

Annual House Cross Country Carnival

The rescheduled Annual House Cross Country Carnival will be held on Friday, 24 April (Week 1, Term 2) during Periods 5 and 6. All students are expected to participate unless injured. The race will start and finish on the school oval, with the 4km course involving two laps around the streets surrounding the College.

The interschool cross country squad for the ACC Carnival later in the term will be selected from the results of this race, with the top eight runners from each year group making the preliminary squad.

Each year group will begin in a separate wave, with the Year 8 students starting first at approximately 1:45pm, followed by Years 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

BlueChip Timing will coordinate the timing of runners and house results, with each student wearing a timing bib. Live results will be available on their website, and a direct link will be provided to families via email prior to the race.

Students are asked to wear their House sports uniform, including their House polo, to and from school on the day.

Parents and family members are welcome to attend and watch the start and finish of the race at the College. A presentation to the winning House, along with each year group Champion and Runner-up, will take place in the quadrangle at approximately 3:00pm.
