Young Vinnies

Young Vinnies Connection Event
The students and staff involved in the Young Vinnies group at Mazenod recently attended a Young Vinnies Connection Event at St Vincent de Paul Headquarters, Ozanam House, in Canning Vale. The event provided an opportunity for secondary students involved with Vinnies to engage more deeply with the mission and services of Vinnies WA, while also networking with other Young Vinnies leaders from schools across the Perth metropolitan area.
The day fostered a stronger connection to the mission of Vinnies WA, built community among participating schools and generated enthusiasm for the Young Vinnies program throughout the year.
The event also gave students a deeper understanding of poverty and homelessness in Western Australia, as well as the services Vinnies WA provides to support those in need. It offered valuable opportunities for students to reflect on and share the work they do within their own schools, while learning from the initiatives being undertaken by other school communities.
Activities throughout the day included assembling toiletry bags for people experiencing homelessness, listening to representatives from homeless shelters such as Tom Fisher House and exploring ways we can continue to support those in need through initiatives within the College and the wider community.
Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Day
Young Vinnies cooked up a storm for Shrove Tuesday, preparing more than 200 pancakes in the kitchen. All were sold within 15 minutes at recess - a sterling effort by the Vinnies leaders.
The initiative was also well supported by students across the College, with all proceeds going to Vinnies WA.
