Student Wellbeing

Responding to Our Student Wellbeing Data
At St Fidelis, we use student wellbeing data to celebrate our strengths and identify opportunities to further support our learners. This term, students participated in targeted wellbeing lessons designed to build resilience, strengthen relationships and develop the skills needed to make positive choices. By responding to student voice, we continue to create a safe, supportive and inclusive school community where every child can thrive.
FOS – The Colour Monster: My Big Feelings
Our Foundation students in FOS explored The Colour Monster to help them recognise and name a range of emotions. Through the story, students discovered that all feelings are normal and learnt simple strategies to help calm their bodies when emotions feel big.
Together, students practised breathing exercises, asking a trusted adult for help, taking a quiet moment and using calming strategies to regulate their emotions. They also created their own Colour Monster to represent how they were feeling and identified a strategy they can use whenever they need support. These early skills help children build emotional awareness, confidence and resilience from a young age.
Year 4 – Choosing Our Response
Year 4 students explored the important idea that while we can't always control what happens to us, we can choose how we respond. Through discussions, role plays and real-life scenarios, students learnt practical strategies for managing conflict respectfully and building positive relationships.
Using the STOP → THINK → CHOOSE strategy, students practised pausing before reacting, considering the impact of their choices and selecting responses that show kindness, empathy and respect. They discovered that solving problems calmly, using respectful words and seeking support when needed are all signs of strength and help create a positive learning environment for everyone.
These lessons encourage students to become thoughtful decision-makers who contribute positively to their classrooms, friendships and wider community.
Year 5 – One Choice Changes Everything
Year 5 students explored how the choices we make each day can have a positive impact on ourselves, our learning and our relationships. Through the lesson One Choice Changes Everything, students discovered that even small decisions can lead to different outcomes and that every choice is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Using the scenario of waking up late for school, students discussed the different choices they could make and explored how each decision could influence the rest of their day. They reflected on the idea that choices are not always simply "good" or "bad", but that every choice has consequences and can affect the people around us.
Throughout the lesson, students practised thinking ahead, considering the possible outcomes of their actions and making decisions that reflect our school values. By developing these skills, students are building responsibility, resilience and confidence to make positive choices in everyday situations.
When schools and families work together, we help every child flourish socially, emotionally and academically. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting the wellbeing of our students.
