Foundation News

What an exciting week we have had in Foundation! Tuesday 28th July was the day the Foundation students celebrated a very important milestone- 100 Days of School! So much effort was put into turning normal 5- and 6-year-olds into 100-year-old people. Our hair was grey or white, there were many walking sticks that assisted our balance, and our clothes were just spectacular!
We spent the day celebrating the number 100. The day began with a parade in the Hall, showing our parents and grandparents our 100-year-old moves as we bopped along to some music. Stories were read, cupcakes were made and decorated with 100s and 1000s. We want to thank Mrs Monaghan and the parent helpers who helped make the cupcakes. We drew a picture of what we may look like when we are 100 and completed some sentence starters to describe ourselves : I will have … and I will still love …
We have displayed these in our learning spaces, so please come and check out our predictions of what we will really look like when we are 100!
We also wish to thank The Village Bakery, who made a special celebration cake to acknowledge our 100 Days of School. We really can’t believe how quickly the first 100 days have gone by in Foundation. We have learnt so much, and we really look forward to how we will grow for the remainder of the year.
As Inquirers, we have been unpacking and sorting the differences between Living and Non-living things as part of our new Inquiry Unit “ How do Living Things Survive and Thrive?”. We have also collated information that we found out at our Zoo excursion as part of a reflection of the excursion. Over the coming weeks we will be learning more about the needs of different animals, including what habitats they live in.
This week we will be learning about…
- Numeracy- Addition
- Reading- revision of letter sounds and digraphs (ck, ll, ss,ff, sh, qu, ee, z, zz, ch, v), stretching out words, blending the sounds together and reading tricky words
- Writing- writing Information Reports, recording different sounds we can hear in the words we want to write and using full stops
- Inquiry- What do living things need to survive?
- Religion- What is Confirmation?
- The Resilience Project- Emotional Literacy- I can feel the beat
Have a wonderful week!
Foundation Team,
Olivia Sargent and Leanne Wenckowski
