Year 2 News

Welcome back to another fun-filled week in Grade 2!
As researchers, we worked collaboratively in pairs to read facts about living things. We shared roles, listened respectfully to each other's ideas, and made sure everyone contributed to the task. Together, we highlighted key words, sorted the facts into groups, and used the information to answer questions about the text.
As writers, we have continued to develop our paragraph writing skills by learning how to structure a paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting body sentences and a concluding sentence. We have also been practising grouping related ideas together so that each paragraph focuses on one main topic, helping our writing become more organised and cohesive. We used planners to help us understand this.
As mathematicians, we continued our learning about multiplication by using bar models to solve problems. We practised reading and unpacking multiplication word problems, identifying the important information, and selecting an appropriate strategy to solve them. We then applied our understanding by creating our own multiplication worded problems for others to solve.
As people of faith, we explored the story of Pentecost and learned about the gift of the Holy Spirit. We discussed what the Holy Spirit means for us as followers of Jesus and how the Holy Spirit guides us in our daily lives. We engaged in thinking routines, including a KWL chart, to share our prior knowledge and new learning, and sequenced the events of Pentecost to deepen our understanding of this important Scripture story.
This week, we will be learning about…
- Numeracy: Division
- Literacy: Information reports
- Spelling: The graph /u/ making the sound "oo" as in bull
- Inquiry: Aquatic Animals
- Religion: The Holy Spirit
- TRP: Emotional literacy
We are looking forward to another fun-filled week, kicking off with our excursion!
