Year 7 and 8 Students Shine at Regional Cross Country

On Monday 15 June, a group of our Year 7 and Year 8 students travelled to compete in the Western Metropolitan Regional Cross Country Championships. This was the second stage of competition, with students having successfully qualified at the division event on 21 May.

The weather was certainly on our side, with sunshine and a pleasant 17-degree day providing ideal conditions for running. Our students performed exceptionally well, achieving several personal best times, recording top-20 finishes and, most importantly, enjoying the experience.

Throughout the day, our runners represented Gisborne Secondary College with pride, demonstrating our school values of Respect, Achievement and Diversity both on and off the course.

A special mention must go to Talen Close (7D), who displayed outstanding sportsmanship during his race. After noticing a fellow competitor had fallen, Talen chose to put aside his own race ambitions to assist the runner back to their feet. He then stayed with the competitor all the way to the finish line, offering encouragement and support throughout. Talen’s selfless actions were a wonderful example of compassion, respect and the true spirit of sport.

Congratulations to all of our runners on their efforts and achievements. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented GSC. Well done! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️👏
