Prime Minister's Spelling Bee

Two weeks ago, we had more than 80 students in Years 3 to 6 participate in the national Prime Minister's Spelling Bee. This is an online competition organised through Kids News. Students complete a 30-word online challenge with a 25 second time limit per word across their year level’s difficulty tiers. The students with the most correct words in the fastest time progress to the finals level. There were some VERY tricky words in the mix, all randomly generated and different for each child. Students did well listening to the words, hearing them in a sentence and having a go at some brand new words. Thank you to families who encouraged their child to get involved in the spelling competition and supported them with practising at home. 

This year we had five students make the State Level finals, which were completed on Friday 4 September:

• Vincent Y, 6B
• Carmel K, 6B 
• Yo Yo X, 6B
• Julian K, 5L
• Viraj G, 4S

We would like to congratulate these students on making it through to the State finals. 

All students who participated in the Spelling Bee received a certificate, with the champions of each year level (Years 3 to 6) announced at assembly and presented with another certificate.
