Lucas' international chess achievements

We are incredibly proud to congratulate Lucas Z on his outstanding achievements in chess.

Lucas was selected as Australia’s official player in the Under 12 Open category at two major international chess tournaments in 2026:  the FIDE World Cadet Chess Championships in Batumi, Georgia, and the 28th Asian Youth Chess Championships in Shenzhen, China.

This was a significant opportunity for Lucas to represent Australia on the international stage and compete against some of the world’s leading young chess players. Lucas was one of the stronger performers on the Australian team at the FIDE World Cadet Chess Championships, with some of his games selected for inclusion in the World Cup Masters Games database.

Lucas also achieved an incredible result at the Asian Youth Chess Championships, finishing 17th among hundreds of talented young players who were selected to represent their countries.

These achievements reflect Lucas’ hard work, focus, determination and passion for chess. Representing Australia at an international level is a remarkable accomplishment and we are extremely proud of the way Lucas has represented both Australia and Essex Heights Primary School.

To recognise his outstanding achievements, Lucas was presented with a Principal’s Award at our school assembly.
