Kids Helpline Incursion
On Tuesday 18 August, students participated in the largest anti-bullying session by Kids Helpline. The session was developed by Kids Helpline counsellors and provided students with practical skills to help recognise, respond to and prevent bullying. Students learned about how to use their power for good through scenarios, real-life stories and age-appropriate strategies to shut down bullying.
Public Speaking & Debating Workshop
On Monday 31 August, a group of Year 5 students had the opportunity to participate in a public speaking and debating skills workshop at Salesian College Chadstone. The session was facilitated by students from the college who are passionate about public speaking, debating and leadership. This workshop was designed to help students build their confidence, communicate effectively and develop the skills needed to become leaders within their schools. With many students preparing for upcoming Year 6 leadership speeches and leadership applications, this workshop provides them with strategies and experience speaking.

It was really fun. We went to this spacious room and watched videos of debates and speaking. We extracted learning points from it. The students facilitating the event showed us a debate. They physically showed us how to present ourselves, how to treat the others debating and how to stand.

We focused on different skills throughout the day. We learned about different mannerisms when you’re presenting and how you present yourself beyond just what you’re saying. We learned what a rebuttal is in debating and also, we did some writing. We learned about the structure of a debate and what it should sound like. We split into teams and six children participated in a 3 versus 3 debate. We learned about different debating terms such as ‘affirmative’. I learned that when done right, debating is very fun!
Indonesian Day
Indonesian Day (which we had on Friday 21 August in the EHPS community) marks the anniversary of the country's Declaration of Independence. It was a day filled with games, crafts, decorating, trying different foods, special workshops and more! The students had a wonderful time practising their Indonesian language skills and participating in this yearly event.

Living Wax Museum
On Friday we look forward to welcoming our families to the Year 5 Living Wax Museum to step back in time and explore history come to life! Inspired by the famous displays at Madame Tussauds, Year 5 students have been creating their own Living Wax Museum as part of our exploration of the Victorian Gold Rush. Students have researched a significant person from the era and using their findings have created an engaging presentation. They will dress as a wax figure of their chosen historical figure and bring their character to life by sharing key facts about their life and contributions during this important period in history. We look forward to sharing this exciting and interactive learning experience – join us on Friday 11 September from 9:30am to 10:45am in the School Hall to view their presentations.
