Mental Health & Wellbeing

Our Partnership with The Resilience Project

We are excited to share that Essex Heights Primary School continues to partner with The Resilience Project to support the wellbeing, resilience and positive mental health of our students, staff and wider school community. The Resilience Project provides evidence-based strategies and resources that help children develop the skills they need to manage challenges, build positive relationships and develop a strong sense of wellbeing.

Throughout the year, students are supported to explore four key areas:

Gratitude

Students learn to notice and appreciate the positive things in their lives. They are encouraged to recognise the people, experiences and everyday moments that they are grateful for.

Empathy

Students develop an understanding of their own emotions and the feelings and perspectives of others. They explore ways to show kindness, compassion and understanding in their relationships with others.

Mindfulness

Students develop skills in mindfulness as a practical skill for helping to slow down, focusing on the present moment and becoming more aware of their thoughts, feelings and surroundings. Students explore mindful breathing, guided mindfulness activities, noticing their senses and taking moments to pause and reset.

Emotional Literacy

Students build their vocabulary and understanding of emotions. They will learn to recognise and communicate how they are feeling and develop strategies to manage difficult emotions and respond positively to challenges.

These ideas will be incorporated into our classroom learning, wellbeing programs and everyday interactions across the school. We encourage students to put these strategies into practice at home and in their relationships with family and friends.

Working together with families

We believe that supporting children's wellbeing is a shared responsibility between school, home and the wider community. Our partnership with The Resilience Project provides a common language and practical strategies that can be used both at school and at home.

We encourage our families to talk with your children about what they are learning and to look for simple opportunities to practise gratitude, empathy and emotional literacy together.

By working together, we can help our students develop the resilience, confidence and positive relationships they need to thrive at school and beyond.

Together, we can help our children understand that resilience isn't about avoiding challenges — it's about developing the skills and support they need to navigate them.
