New Staff Members at HEPS

We are delighted to announce three new additions to our Education Support team here at HEPS: Melanie Lockyer, Madi Parveneh, and Eliza Adkins.

Many of you will already recognise these three familiar faces, having seen them working casually around our school. We are thrilled to now welcome them as fully-fledged members of the HEPS staff!

Our Education Support Staff play a vital role in the success of our students, and we are incredibly proud of the dedication and care they bring to our school community every day. We are confident that Melanie, Madi and Eliza will continue to make a wonderful contribution to our students' learning and wellbeing.

Update- Old Admin Building/Cottage and Renovation to ART Room

We are continuing to work with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to finalise plans for the former Administration Building and Cottage site. As previously shared in the newsletter, part of this area will eventually be transformed into a new playground. The VSBA will also manage the refurbishment of our ART room.

Subject to budget the proposed wish list for the ART room includes removing the existing straw roof, installing new fascia, upgrading the guttering system, repainting both the interior and exterior of the building, modernising the façade and installing new flooring.  Finalisation of scope will be determined as part of the tender process.

At this stage, we expect these projects are unlikely to commence until early next year. Before construction can begin, the VSBA must complete several important stages, including appointing an architect through a tender process to develop the designs for both the playground and ART room refurbishment. Once the designs are complete, a second tender process will be undertaken to appoint a builder to carry out the works. These processes take time to ensure the projects are delivered appropriately.

In the meantime, we are hopeful that sections of the former Administration Building and Cottage site can be reopened for student play once the reinstatement works have been completed.

We appreciate that the time required for these projects can be frustrating for students, families, and our wider school community.

New Fence Along Armstrong Road

We're excited to share that a new fence along Armstrong Road will be installed in the middle to late part of August. At the same time, we'll also be building a new Welcome Path, running from the Gym through to the top of the Admin footpath.

These improvements will help enhance the safety, accessibility and overall look of our school grounds. There may be some minor disruption to access in these areas while works are underway, and we'll keep you updated closer to the time.

HEPS Annual Trivia Night – This Saturday 8 August

Get your team together and join us for one of the biggest social events on the HEPS calendar! Enjoy a fantastic evening of trivia, games, raffles, a silent auction and plenty of fun, all while supporting our school community.

Tickets are $30 per person, with doors opening at 6:00 pm and trivia commencing at 7:00 pm. This is an adults-only event, and guests are welcome to BYO drinks and snacks.

This year's raffle features an amazing prize pool, with 1st prize valued at $2,083, 2nd prize at $1,205, and 3rd prize at $395, thanks to the generous support of our local businesses. Swimming- Foundation to Level 5 next week

Our Foundation to Level 5 students are looking forward to participating in their annual Swimming Program next week from Monday 10 August to Friday 14 August, at Aquanation. This program provides students with the opportunity to build their confidence and develop important water safety and swimming skills in a fun and supportive environment. We look forward to a fantastic week of learning in the pool!

No Dogs Policy at HEPS

Just a reminder that our No Dogs on School Grounds Policy came into effect last week. Dogs are not permitted anywhere on school grounds at any time, including during the school day, at pick-up and drop-off, and at school events, other than registered assistance dogs. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and support as we work together to keep our school safe and inclusive for all. The full policy is available on our school website.

100 Days Foundation

Congratulations to our Foundation students on reaching their 100 Days of Foundation milestone. This special celebration was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the amazing growth and learning our youngest students have achieved since starting school. Students enjoyed a range of fun activities centred around the number 100, including sharing collections of 100 items, engaging in Maths and Literacy activities, and celebrating this important milestone with their classmates and teachers. We are incredibly proud of the confidence, independence and enthusiasm our Foundation students have shown in their first 100 days of school.

Off to State Our Netball Team

Congratulations to our 5/6 Girls' Netball team on progressing to the Victorian State Netball Championships!

Last Thursday, the girls played an incredible 10 games in a single day, winning 9 of them to finish on top of the ladder and secure their place at the State Finals.

Throughout the day, the team displayed outstanding teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. Their commitment and resilience were evident in every match, and they represented our school with pride.

Congratulations to all the players on this fantastic achievement. We wish them the very best of luck at the Victorian State Championships in a few weeks' time!

Tee-ballers Progress to Regional Level

Congratulations to our Girls' Tee Ball team on winning the Zone competition! This fantastic achievement has earned them a place at the Regional Championships. We wish the team all the very best and look forward to cheering them on in the next stage of the competition. 

Junior Hoop Time Basketball

Our Level 3–4 students had a fantastic time at Hoop Time Basketball last week! They represented HEPS with great teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm on the court and the way they encouraged and supported each other. We are very proud of the way they played and the positive spirit they brought to the day.

Vic Police Presentation for Level 6 students

On Tuesday, we welcomed two Victorian Police officers who presented to our Level 6 students. The session focused on being a good citizen, making positive choices, showing respect for others, and understanding personal responsibility.

Students were highly engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and gained valuable insights from the officers' experience. We thank Victoria Police for delivering such an informative session.

AFLW Players Visit HEPS

Our students enjoyed a special visit from four AFLW players this week. The players shared their football journeys, spoke about the importance of teamwork, resilience and hard work, and answered a range of thoughtful questions from our students. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to hear from elite athletes and be inspired by their experiences

Book Week Celebrations – Wednesday 26th August

We’re looking forward to celebrating Book Week on Wednesday 26th August, with the theme “Symphony of Stories”. On this day the students are invited to dress as their favourite book character for our much-loved Book Parade. Parents and families are welcome to join us and cheer on the colourful costumes. We’re also excited to welcome children’s author Andrea Rowe for the day. Sarah will run engaging workshops with all year levels, inspiring students with her stories and sharing insights into the writing process. Our Literacy team has planned a fun-filled program to ignite a love of reading and storytelling across the school.

Wellbeing Information Session- Wednesday 2nd September at 5:30 PM

At Heathmont East Primary School, we are proud to run a comprehensive Wellbeing program that supports the social, emotional, and personal growth of every student. This includes our Friendology program, School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), and Cyber Safety education, alongside a range of bespoke strategies that our teachers and education support staff implement every day in the classroom.

We would like to invite all parents and carers to a Wellbeing Information Session on Wednesday 2nd September at 5:30 PM in the staffroom, where we will be joined by our School Counsellor, Tal, to share how we support the wellbeing of every student at HEPS.

This will be a great opportunity to learn more about our approach and to ask any questions you may have about how we can continue to support the wellbeing of all our students, both at school and at home.
