Level 4

What's been happening in Level Four

It's been a busy few weeks in Level 4. Last week we had the Junior Hooptime and the day was a huge success! Congratulations to all the students who participated, and to the teams who won their Grand Final. We enjoyed seeing the students participate with positivity, resilience and enthusiasm. 

Literacy

This term in Literacy we have begun Book Club! Twice a week, students read a shared text as a group and conduct different literacy roles. We're having some great conversations about the different books and the students are eager to continue reading to find out more about their chosen text. 

In Writing, we have had a focus on Narratives. Each week, the students are presented with a new stimulus to write about. These are one or two-word topics that the students must incorporate into their piece. In conjunction with this, we have had a focus on using the 6+1 Traits of Writing, to incorporate different skills and practising how to improve our piece. Some key areas we have focussed on have included Word Choice, Ideas, and Sentence Fluency. We will be exploring Voice and Organisation in the coming weeks. 

If you would like to support your child's writing at home, try giving them a one-word topic and get them to do a 15-minute rocket write about that topic. 

Inquiry

This term, our Inquiry focus is Geography. More specifically, the Level 4s are exploring Australia's place in the world and what makes it a unique country. Last week we focussed on exploring the natural, constructed and managed features of the Australian Landscape, and students identified features in their local areas. This week is all about mapping. Students will be mapping their local area and including all the different events and places that make their suburb great! 

Numeracy

For the past 2 weeks, we have been exploring Measurement. More specifically, students have been learning how to identify the different forms of measurement, such as Length, Time, Temperature, Mass and Capacity, and how to convert different measurements within these types. The students thoroughly enjoyed creating a journey for their snail that ventured all throughout their home! They had to plan where the snail went and had to include a variety of measurements in their journey. Be sure to ask your child about their snail adventure!
