Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

As we reach the end of Term 1, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been a positive and productive start to the school year. It has been wonderful to see our students settle into their classes, build new friendships, and engage enthusiastically in their learning.

Throughout the term, our classrooms have been productive spaces where enthusiasm, resilience and collaboration have been on display. Our leaders and teachers have worked hard to create engaging learning experiences, and we thank them for their ongoing dedication and professionalism.

We have also seen strong participation in extracurricular activities, including swimming carnival, athletics carnival and in the performing arts. We have also celebrated Harmony Week and our Hindi Beacon school commemorated Holi. These opportunities play an important role in developing well-rounded students and fostering a strong sense of belonging within our school community. We are very much looking forward to the musical production of The Adams Family later this year as students start rehearsals next term .

A particular highlight this term has been the way our students have demonstrated our school values—showing respect, excellence and cooperation. We encourage families to continue reinforcing these values at home as we work together to support each student’s growth.

As we move into the term break, we hope all students take the time to rest, recharge and spend time with family and friends.

This is also a valuable opportunity to review progress and prepare for the challenges of Term 2. We warmly invite families to Parent Teacher Student interviews which will be in the first week of Term 2.

A reminder that Exams are held towards the end of Term 2, so it is very important students are displaying a commitment to their learning.

Looking ahead, Term 2 promises to be a busy and exciting period, with a range of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities planned. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to continue their learning journey.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Easter holiday break.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

As we reach the end of Term 1, we would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the strong start our Year 8 students have made.

It has been a positive term, with students demonstrating enthusiasm, resilience and a commitment to their learning. We are pleased with the way Year 8 students have settled into their classes, built positive relationships and engaged in the many opportunities available to them.

One of the highlights of the term has been the success of our Year 8 Girls Volleyball team, who performed exceptionally well and won their tournament. We congratulate the team on this fantastic achievement and wish them the best of luck as they progress to the next stage of competition.

In addition to sporting success, many Year 8 students have shown excellent effort in the classroom, participated in school events such as the Athletics Carnival, and represented the College with pride in interschool sport.

We encourage all families to take the time to review their child’s Term 1 report, which will be available via Compass, and to attend the upcoming Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences in Term 2. These conversations are an important opportunity to support your child’s continued growth and success.

Thank you for your ongoing support throughout Term 1. We wish all families a safe and enjoyable Easter break and look forward to welcoming students back for Term 2.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

A blistering start to the year by Year 9’s!

NAPLAN is done and dusted for another year. Year 9’s were fantastic throughout NAPLAN. We are proud of the way students approached the tests with focus, determination, and a positive attitude.

Assemblies have also continued to be an important part of our school community. They provide a chance to come together, celebrate achievements, share important messages, and strengthen our sense of connection as a year level. We appreciate the respectful way students participate and represent themselves during these gatherings.

Each week we celebrate our Student of the Week. Congratulations and well done to the students below:

Week 2 – Haadia Majid of 9S, for performing strongly as a leader, guiding the class to collaboratively create a STEM acronym that captured our shared values of strength.

Week 3 – Jennifer Duru of 9G, for her good work ethic and participation in class activities. Being a good leader in 9G.

Week 4 – Angela Weeku of 9S, because of her academic growth and excellence in her classes.

Week 5 – Angus Deveney of 9B, for always striving for excellence, attending classes and demonstrating college values.

Week 6 – Eh Kae Ler Paw of 9E, for always attending class ready to learn, doing their best and being organised with their binder.

Week 7 – Connor Sproats of 9F, for his work in the Arts Hub elective.

Week 8 – Eva Jenkins of 9C, for representing the school with pride.

Week 9 – Nga Reh of 9E, for always contributing to a positive learning environment and doing his best in class.

It is great to see students striving to do their best and continuing to demonstrate our college values.

Our termly tutor challenge is heating up as our tutor groups strive to become our first tutor challenge champions. All wanting to be the first to claim the Year 9 cup and win 1000 MyWyndham points.

All of this would not be possible without the fantastic Year 9 Team!

I hope the Year 9's enjoy a happy and safe term break and return fresh and ready to learn in Term 2.
