Excursion - Art, Textiles & VCD students

LCI Melbourne, Thursday, 19th February
Our Year 9and 10, Art and Fashion students, along with our Year 11 VCD students, had the wonderful opportunity to attend a special excursion to LCI Melbourne, a globally design academy located in Melbourne. It was an exciting and valuable experience for our students to explore learning beyond the classroom and gain insight into possible future pathways in the creative industries.
The team at LCI Melbourne generously hosted two workshops for our students, introducing them to the worlds of fashion design and graphic design.
In the first workshop, students worked in small groups of two or three to create a unique fashion piece. Using fabric and mannequins, they experimented with draping techniques to design a one-of-a-kind dress inspired by the NGV Gala. This hands-on activity encouraged students to explore creativity, teamwork, and innovative design thinking.
After a short break, students moved into their second workshop where they stepped into the role of graphic designers. In this challenge, they were asked to design a unique product, encouraged students to think carefully about visual impact, branding, and visual communication.
It was wonderful to see our students fully engaged throughout the day. They collaborated with their peers, shared creative ideas, and approached each challenge with enthusiasm and curiosity. Experiences like this provide students with valuable insight into creative careers and help them imagine the many possibilities within Art and Design.
A big thank you to LCI Melbourne for hosting such inspiring workshops and providing our students with this memorable experience.
