Teaching & Learning Report

Connie Faranda - Assistant Principal
NAPLAN 2026
Congratulate our Year 7 and Year 9 students for successfully completing the 2026 NAPLAN assessments. Their resilience, determination, and individual effort have been impressive, and we are incredibly proud of the way each student has given their best.
NAPLAN continues to provide valuable insights into student skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy. Completing the assessments online has allowed each student to experience a tailored testing format, designed to adapt to their responses and offer a more engaging experience.
We thank families and teachers for the continued support throughout NAPLAN. Encouragement at home and at school has played a key role in helping students feel confident, prepared, and ready to tackle each assessment with determination.
We are proud of the perseverance and effort demonstrated by our students and look forward to celebrating their achievements in 2026.

AVID National Demonstration School: Supporting Every Student to Learn and Grow
As an AVID National Demonstration School, Wyndham Central College is proud of this significant achievement that highlights the strength of our teaching and learning programs and our commitment to student success.
This recognition is grounded in our outstanding student outcomes. Our data shows that students at Wyndham Central College achieve greater than 18 months growth in Reading, Writing, and Numeracy, which is significantly higher than other schools within our network. This demonstrates the strong “value add” we provide, ensuring every student makes meaningful and accelerated progress.
A key driver of this success is our consistent use of AVID non-negotiables across the school. These include:
The AVID Binder, which supports students to stay organised and prepared for learning
Cornell Notes, which strengthen students’ ability to process, reflect on, and retain new knowledge
A strong focus on critical reading, ensuring students can deepen their comprehension and understanding of complex texts
These strategies are embedded in every classroom, supporting students to become more independent, confident, and capable learners.
As an AVID National Demonstration School, we now have the opportunity to share our practices with educators from across Australia, showcasing the high-quality teaching and learning that takes place every day at Wyndham Central College.
We are incredibly proud of our students, staff, and families who have contributed to this achievement and continue to support our shared goal of ensuring every student learns, grows, and succeeds.
Updated WCC Homework Policy
A reminder that we have an updated WCC Homework Policy
Please see attachment for the Homework policy.
At Wyndham Central College, we value the important role that families play in supporting learning. We invite parents and carers to partner with us by reading and becoming familiar with the policy, which outlines:
• The types of homework students can expect across year levels
• The recommended time students should spend studying and completing work at home to support success
• Practical ways parents and carers can support learning and study routines at home
A reminder that Cornell notes must be part of your child’s regular homework and home study program.
The policy is designed to provide clarity and consistency for students and families, while helping students develop strong study habits and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping your child achieve their best.
Hindi Beacon School Success at WCC
As a proud Hindi Beacon School, Wyndham Central College continues to lead the way in Hindi language and cultural education, providing rich learning opportunities that strengthen students’ global understanding and cultural connections.
We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our Beacon School Leader, Shalika Sharma, who has successfully completed the Monash University Hindi and Punjabi Language Teachers Course. Balancing full-time work with study is no small feat, and Shalika has demonstrated remarkable commitment, dedication, and passion for improving language education at our school.
On 25 March, Shalika was invited to attend her graduation ceremony, where she was formally recognised for this achievement in the presence of the Minister of Education, the Hon. Ben Carroll alongside representatives from Monash University, the Department of Education, and the Indian Embassy.
This is an outstanding accomplishment, and we are incredibly proud of Shalika’s leadership and contribution to strengthening Hindi education at WCC.
Congratulations, Shalika, on this well-deserved achievement!
Reading for Pleasure (RfP)
At Wyndham Central College, we are committed to building a love of reading. Through our Reading for Pleasure program, students have dedicated time during WYNtime to read independently and enjoy books of their choice.
Research shows that regular reading not only strengthens literacy and comprehension but also supports wellbeing and lifelong learning. We encourage all families to support this at home by setting aside time for reading, talking about books, and modelling positive reading habits.
Together, we can help every student develop a lifelong love of reading.
SORA eLIBRARY at WCC

Alumni Program
Wyndham Central College is proud of our alumni and the Alumni Program continues this year.
Alumni from our foundation schools – Werribee Technical School and Galvin Park Secondary College – are also part of our alumni community.
The purpose of the alumni community is to advise, help and inspire current students at Wyndham Central College and support a network with other ex-students.
We developed the program in partnership with Ourschool, a not-for-profit service that helps public schools build their alumni communities.
Our alumni program focuses on:
- Establishing and growing our alumni community
- Inviting alumni back to school to provide career or study advice to students
- Inviting alumni to offer work experience placements for our students
- Helping alumni establish or contribute to student scholarships
- Establishing avenues for alumni to provide philanthropic support
Alumni can join our alumni community by filling in the form on our College website at https://www.wyndhamcentralsc.vic.edu.au/alumni/
I wish you all a wonderful Term break and look forward to seeing all students return for the new term.
