Foundation News

We have had another wonderful two weeks in Foundation! We hope you enjoyed celebrating Mother’s Day on the weekend with the special people in your lives.
Last week, we had a visit from Camp Quality.
They presented a puppet show designed to help create a supportive community for children impacted by cancer. Hopefully, your children came home sharing stories about this wonderful performance with you.
In Literacy, students are continuing to be introduced to new sounds and letters each week. We are now up to 10 sounds! Students have been using these sounds to read and write words and have even had a go at writing sentences.
Readers were sent home for the first time last week to help students practise these developing skills. These readers will now be changed weekly.
We have also been introduced to our first “tricky words”.
Tricky words are words that cannot be sounded out because they contain a “tricky” part. The tricky words we have learnt so far are: I, the, my, a, and is. There is a page at the back of students’ reader diaries where they can practise these tricky words as they are introduced. We encourage you to revisit these at home whenever you get the chance.
In Maths, we have continued our learning about part-part-whole relationships. This has included making numbers up to 10 in two and three parts using ten frames and counters.
Kind regards,
The Foundation Team
