Grade 4 News

We hope everyone had a fantastic weekend celebrating Mother’s Day and spending special time with family and loved ones.
In Literacy, students are continuing to learn more about Dusty in Uncle Xbox, while also developing their understanding of his Aboriginal culture and some of the challenges he faces throughout the story. Through discussions and class activities, students are building empathy and making thoughtful connections to the text.
In Writing, we are continuing to work on our factual recounts, which are coming along very well. Students have been focusing on following the correct recount structure, including sequencing events clearly and using paragraphs appropriately. We are also learning how to add more detail to our sentences to make our writing more interesting and informative for the reader.
In Maths, we have moved into our Measurement unit. Students have been measuring length and distance using rulers, tape measures and trundle wheels. We have also been exploring perimeter and area, learning how to measure and calculate using different units of measurement through a range of hands-on activities.
In Religion, we are continuing our Circle of Life unit, focusing on reflection, managing grief and understanding the importance of supporting others through difficult times. Students have been encouraged to think about empathy, kindness and the ways people can care for one another in times of loss and change.
In Respectful Relationships, we are learning about help-seeking strategies and recognising when a problem may be too big for us to handle on our own. Students are identifying trusted adults and practising ways to ask for help when they need support.
Please continue to encourage your child to maintain their positive reading habits and regularly complete their reading diary. Students are encouraged to fill out their diaries as independently as possible, including writing a short comment sharing their thoughts, opinions or reflections about the text they have read.
Thanks for all your support.
Keep up the fantastic work, Grade 4!
