Grade 1 News

Welcome to Week 4!
It was wonderful to see and celebrate all of our mums on Friday. We hope you had a lovely weekend and were thoroughly spoilt! Thank you to everyone who joined us for breakfast and prayer.
We are looking forward to another exciting and busy week of learning, filled with engaging activities and opportunities for students to continue building their confidence and skills in the classroom.
In Literacy, students have been enjoying returning to our teacher-led activities to strengthen their word work skills. Through a range of hands-on games and learning experiences, students have been practising recognising sounds, building words and improving their reading fluency. Grade 1 Shannon (pictured below) especially enjoyed taking part in a whole-class game of Banana Bingo, where students worked together while developing their understanding of letters and sounds in a fun and engaging way. It has been wonderful to see students showing enthusiasm and confidence during our Literacy sessions.
In Mathematics, we have been exploring Measurement. Students have had lots of fun “hefting” and comparing different objects based on their length and mass, while developing their understanding of measurement concepts through hands-on learning experiences. They have been encouraged to use mathematical language such as heavier, lighter, longer and shorter to describe and compare objects. The students have particularly enjoyed making predictions and testing their ideas using classroom materials and everyday objects.
In Religion, we are exploring the Christian message of Good News in the Pentecost story and discussing how Jesus’ message was shared with others. Students have been reflecting on ways they can show kindness, love and care within our classroom and wider community, just as Jesus taught his disciples to do.
A friendly reminder to please keep bringing in reader diaries each day so they can be checked off, and readers can be changed regularly. Thank you for your continued support with reading at home, regular practice makes such a positive difference to students’ confidence and progress.
Thank you,
Grade One Team
