Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,

We are continuing to have an amazing term 1. The students are becoming more confident with our new Maths and Literacy routines. They are working hard to achieve their learning goals.

English

In InitiaLit, we have been focusing on mastering a variety of spelling rules, such as ‘ew’, ‘ue’, and ‘igh’, along with new tricky words like ‘until’, ‘was’, ‘here’, and ‘February’.

Each week, we have been focusing on our vocabulary words from our text, "Will the Wimp," and identifying whether they are nouns, verbs, or adjectives. During comprehension lessons, we learnt how to make predictions before we start reading as well as during the text.

Mathematics

In maths, the students have been continuing to build their confidence in addition through using number bonds. We have also been developing our fluency at the beginning of all of our maths lessons.

Humanities

The students have enjoyed learning about ancient storytelling and the early forms of books.

Handwriting

We have been focusing on the ‘roundabout’ letters a, c and o.

Reminders:

- Hats! Students still need to wear their hats during term 1; if they do not bring one, they will be asked to sit in a shaded area.

- School photos! These will be happening next week. Remember to return your forms.

- Arrive on time - School starts at 8:45 am. Please ensure that your child is in their classroom by this time, ready for learning to begin.
