French News

Bonjour dear parents and students,
We hope everyone has been enjoying a wonderful start to the new school year. The first four weeks have gone very smoothly, and it has been great to see students engaging so positively in their French learning.
Below is a snapshot of what each year level has been working on during Weeks 1–4:
Prep
Prep students have been learning basic French greetings, how to say “My name is” in French, and simple classroom instructions such as “Écoutez” (listen) and “Levez la main” (raise your hand).
Grade 1
Grade 1 students have been learning basic French greetings and introductions, how to ask “How are you?” in French, and simple classroom instructions.
Grade 2
Grade 2 students have been learning extended greetings such as “Bon soir" (Good evening) and “Bonne Nuit" (Good night)” asking and responding to “How are you?” in French, and learning manners including “Excusez-moi” and “Pardon.”
Grade 3
Grade 3 students have been learning classroom instructions in French such as "Levez-vous“ (stand up) and "Asseyez-vous" (sit down), how to ask to go to the toilet or get a drink of water, and how to use definite (le, la, l', les) and indefinite (un, une, des) articles in French, including choosing the correct form for masculine and feminine nouns.
Grade 4
Grade 4 students have been learning extended classroom instructions such as "Rangez vos affaire" (pack up your things) how to ask to go to the toilet or get a drink of water, and how to tell the time using the 24-hour clock, which is commonly used in French-speaking countries.
Grade 5
Grade 5 students have been developing classroom communication skills, including saying "J'ai terminé" (I am done) and "Je pense que" (I think that) They have also been learning how to conjugate -er verbs, prepositions such as on, above, and under, and basic directions in French like "guache" left and "droit"right.
Grade 6
Grade 6 students have been developing classroom communication skills such as “"J'ai terminé" (I am done) and "Je pense que" (I think that). They have been extending their knowledge of prepositions to include north, south, east, and west, and applying their understanding of directions by navigating maps in French.
Upcoming Events
Auditions for Jour de la Francophonie will be held toward the end of the term (Week 9 or 10). More information will be shared soon—stay tuned for some festive French activities!
The French Poetry Competition registration due date is April 8th. Further details on how to sign up and audition will be shared closer to the date.
