Grade 5 Community News

Hello, Year 5 families!!!
Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended meet and greet this week. It was lovely to meet the grownups of our wonderful year 5 students and begin the important school/home relationship that is so integral to our students' learning.
English
We are continuing to read and unpack the author’s purpose and themes of Kensuke’s Kingdom. During writing we have been focussing on fronted adverbials of where and adding the conjunction because to sentences to increase detail and interest when writing. In the coming weeks students will be writing persuasive texts.
Mathematics
We have now finished our Data unit. Our focus has moved to factors and multiples. Students should already have a basic understanding of factors and multiples from previous units, knowing that factors and multiples are found within the multiplication and division facts. In this 8-lesson topic, students begin to construct a formal understanding of the terms “factors” and “multiples” and represent these using a hundred chart and arrays. This helps them start to comprehend and apply divisibility rules, which are also introduced within this unit.
Harmony Day
On March 20th, 2026, Tarneit Rise will celebrate Harmony Day. A special day that recognises the many cultures, backgrounds, and traditions that make our school community so vibrant. Harmony Day teaches students that everyone belongs and deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to dress up in their cultural attire and celebrate what makes each of us unique!
