Grade 4 Community News

Dear Year 4 Families,

What a fantastic start to the year it has been in Grade 4! The students have settled in beautifully and have already shown a wonderful attitude towards their learning. Over the past couple weeks, it has been great to see their enthusiasm, positive behaviour, and willingness to challenge themselves in the classroom. We are incredibly proud of the way they have embraced new routines, built friendships, and approached their learning with confidence and curiosity. We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year ahead in Grade 4!

English:

Our English learning has been following the Ochre curriculum, beginning with our class novel Charlotte’s Web. Through this rich text, students are exploring themes, characters, and author’s purpose while strengthening their reading comprehension skills. Students have been engaging in shared, guided, and independent reading. While developing their writing skills across different text types.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students have begun learning through the EMP program, which focuses on developing strong problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking. Students have been developing their skills by completing Daily Review Quick Teaches to build upon their learning. The lessons encourage students to explain their reasoning, work collaboratively, and explore multiple strategies.

Humanities:

In Humanities, students have been exploring different habitats and why environments are vital for the survival of people, plants, and animals. They have been investigating Australia’s major natural environments, including vegetation zones and water sources, and learning how these support ecosystems and human life. Students will also learn how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples care for the Country through sustainable practices. They will compare Australia’s environments with another continent and examine how human activity impacts natural systems, before developing ideas for how individuals and communities can help protect and care for the environment.

Digital Technologies:

Year 4 students have been developing their skills in using digital tools safely and effectively. Students have been collaborating responsibly online while building their understanding of how to protect their personal information.

Important dates to remember this term:

  • School photos on the 26th & 27th of February.
  • Public holidays this term: Labour Day, 9th March
  • On March 20th, 2026, Tarneit Rise will celebrate Harmony Day. A special day that recognises the many cultures, backgrounds, and traditions that make our school community so vibrant. Harmony Day teaches students that everyone belongs and deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to dress up in their cultural attire and celebrate what makes each of us unique!

Warm Regards,

The Year 4 Team
