Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,

It has been a busy and exciting fortnight in Performing Arts! Students across Prep to

Grade 6 have been developing their skills in dance and music, building their understanding of the elements of music, and beginning new instrumental learning.

Our Prep students have been exploring the different areas of Performing Arts, with a strong focus on dance. They have been practising improvised dance, which means making up movements as they listen to music. Students have enjoyed dancing to songs with guided actions as well as creating their own movements through improvisation.

In Week 3, Grade 1 students explored a variety of instruments and learnt how to correctly play untuned percussion instruments. This week, each class selected their class song and began practising singing it using the correct pitch, focusing on matching their singing voice to the melody.

Grade 2 students also explored different instruments and learnt how to play untuned percussion instruments. In Week 4, classes selected their class song and began learning about the element of pitch. Students are practising singing with accurate pitch to match the melody of their chosen song.

Last week, Grade 3 and 4 students revised and explored the elements of music, including:  pitch, dynamics, articulation, structure & form and duration (beat, tempo and rhythm). This week, students have begun an exciting composition task. They are creating their own class song using the chorus melody of a song they have chosen, applying their knowledge of the elements of music to guide their creative decisions.

In Week 3, Grade 5 students revised the elements of music: pitch, dynamics, articulation, structure & form, duration, timbre & tone, and texture. In Week 4, students began learning the ukulele. They are developing correct posture and hand positioning, learning simple chords, and practising basic strumming patterns.

Grade 6 students revised the elements of music and are building on their previous ukulele learning. This week, they are revising chord knowledge from last year and practising how to play C major, A minor and F major chords. Students are also refining their strumming patterns and correct playing technique.

It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating confidence, creativity and teamwork in Performing Arts. We look forward to sharing more of their musical learning next fortnight!
