Grevillea House

Hi and welcome to Grevillea House for 2024! My name is Mark Doyle and I am the new House Leader for Grevillea.

A little bit about me and my journey that brought me to Dandenong High School. I began my teaching career in 2013 at Narre Warren South P-12 College. I was lucky enough to spend 9 years there working as a classroom teacher, a student coordinator and finally finishing up as an Assistant Principal. I left Narre Warren at the end of 2021 and made my way to Brighton Secondary College where I was the head of Junior School. From there, my feet got itchy again and an opportunity came for me to work in the second half of 2023 at Rangebank Primary School in Cranbourne as the Assistant Principal of Engagement and Wellbeing. It was at that time that I spied a job opening at Dandenong High School. Having heard some great things about the students and staff here, I jumped at the opportunity and was lucky enough to be the successful applicant to the position of Grevillea House Leader! I am excited for the opportunity to work with the students and staff of Dandenong and can’t wait to learn and grow together.

This year, students of Grevillea House have started off in fantastic fashion. I would also like to extend a very big welcome to our newest members of the House, our Year 7s. They have settled into their high school experience and the House extremely well, engaging with their studies, teachers and each other, respectfully and with enthusiasm. Our Year 12s have gotten off to a fast start also, making 'every minute count' in the final year of their studies. Special mention goes to Sumaira and Abood, our Grevillea House Captains for 2024! Our 8s, 9s, 10s and 11s are also not to be outdone, taking to their studies with enthusiasm and engaging well in their classes.

We have some exciting events and dates happening in the coming weeks that we all should be aware of and excited about:

  • SRC applications have closed for the 2024 year and interviews are set to take place during Week 4, with our badges ceremony for successful applicants taking place in Week 5.
  • Grevillea has a long-standing tradition of being a dominating force in the Dandenong High School Swimming Carnival and I would like to see that tradition continue. Swimming Carnival is taking place on Monday 26th February and I am encouraging all students to get involved. Every participant gets us a point closer to Swimming Carnival victory and House Shield domination in 2024. 7-9s will have the opportunity to sign up during their PE lessons and 10-12s will have the HLT visit your Careers Learning Tutor  next week to sign students up. Any student in 10-12 who would like to sign up prior to this, please see the House Admin Officer or your HLT to put your name down.
  • We have our Year 7 Welcome Picnic coming up on Wednesday 21st February. We welcome all of our Year 7 families to the school to meet their House Leadership Team, see your child's House and classrooms, and receive information to help support students and families to make a smoother transition to the school.

Just on a final note and while uniform for the students in Grevillea House has been, for the most part, outstanding, this is a quick reminder to parents and students that if your child is out of uniform, a note must be provided to the office, the House Leadership or placed on Compass to receive a uniform pass and no follow up consequences. If uniform is an issue, please contact the Grevillea House Leadership Team to discuss supports we can offer to help get your child in the correct uniform.

I would like to thank you for the warm welcome and again look forward to working closely with you all this year!

Mark Doyle
