Student Leaders Corner

Meet your School Captains!

Hi everyone, I hope you have had a great start to the year! I am Andy Nguyen and proud to represent you as one of your School captains this year.

We greeted the Year 7s and 12s earlier, but now I want to welcome all my fellow students back to Dandenong High School! It will be an incredibly exciting year for all of us and perhaps for very different reasons. For Year 7s, it will be their first year of high school. For us Year 12s, it will be out last, so make sure to make it a blast 🥳! And for some of us, perhaps just another year. But I don’t want this year to be 'just another year'. As a student leader, I believe it is my role to champion actions and seek improvements in our school. I firmly believe that, even if little, each of the small changes that we leave behind will inspire greater changes in the years to come. So alongside the other executive leaders that you will hear from very soon, here are our goals for this year:

  1. Raise House and School spirit.
  2. Promote awareness of mental health problems with the 'Push-up Challenge'. (Don’t worry, push-ups are not necessary, more details later 😉)
  3. Develop an environment of kindness and respect wherein everyone can strive to do their best!

Let’s make this year count!

School Captain

Hey everyone! I’m Zainab, one of your School Captains this year. I would like to welcome you all to 2024. The weather has been a bit crazy lately,  and I hope everyone is doing well.

I am beyond grateful to be given this opportunity and privilege to serve as your School Captain alongside Andy. Along with all the other leaders of our school, I am excited to help create change within the school and create a sense of inclusivity, sense of belonging and respect.

Some of my main goals this year are:

  1. Bring in fun and exciting activities for this year's Year 12 cohort and help keep these privileges and traditions alive for the future Year 12 cohorts.
  2. During my School Captain speech, I mentioned kindness, inclusivity and respect being some of my core values and I will try my best to carry and show these values throughout the school yard, alongside our other leaders.
  3. As Andy mentioned the ‘Push-up Challenge’, I am also very keen on promoting mental health awareness, as I have personal experiences to share about my own mental health journey, as well as how taking care of one's mental health and checking on others is very important and can make a big difference.

I would like every student, new or old, to know that the 2024 leadership team and I are here to support and help you all throughout this year. Don’t be afraid to come and ask us any questions you have, as we would all be happy to help. Know that you will always have your leadership team, teachers and the well-being team to guide you.

For my fellow Year 12s, this is our last year of school, so let us all push through, give it all our effort and dedication, have fun along the way and make ‘every minute count’!
