Darwinia House
It has been a great start to 2024 in Darwinia House.
We welcomed our new Year 7s to Dandenong High School on the first day back and they participated in their Induction Program. This program included getting to know you activities, a school tour and finished off with an excursion to Lysterfield Lake. As their new House Leader, I’m pleased with how they have fit into the school and are starting to form strong friendships with each other.
A highlight for me was a session in which the Year 12 students sat down with the Year 7s, in small groups, and had the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience of being high school students. The Year 12 students did a great job of allaying some of the fears that the younger students had and provided sound advice to the Year 7s.
Another highlight was the Year 12 excursion to the Melbourne Cable Park. Introduced this year to help focus students on their studies and build positive relationships, the students participated in a high ropes course and swimming session. They conducted themselves in a highly respectful manner, challenging themselves and having a great time. Let’s hope this transfers into their studies for the rest of this year.
We are currently in the process of selecting our SRC representatives for this year and Darwinia House has received many nominations for the positions in each year level. Our House Captains, Arifa and Rahmat, are looking forward to working with a dedicated group and have already started making plans for fundraising and the sports carnivals.
I hope everyone is enjoying the start to this year as much as I am. I look forward to sharing many more success stories with everyone throughout the year.
Go Darwinia!
