Year 4 News

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful and restful break. It has been fantastic to welcome the students back into the classroom and to see them settle into routines with enthusiasm and positivity. A huge thank you for your support with home learning and for helping set students up for a successful start to the term. We were also very proud of the students for their confidence and effort during our recent assembly; they represented Year 4 beautifully.
Literacy As readers, we have begun exploring Storm Boy. We are focusing on understanding the story, exploring descriptive language, and unpacking how authors create strong settings and characters. As writers, we are beginning to learn about information reports. We are exploring how information texts are structured and how factual, clear language is used to inform the reader. Students are also learning how to unpack texts by identifying key vocabulary and language features.
Numeracy As mathematicians, we are beginning to learn about decimals. We are exploring what decimals represent, how they relate to tenths and hundredths, and how to connect them to everyday contexts such as money and measurement. Students are also continuing to practise their multiplication facts.
Inquiry As inquirers, we are exploring ANZAC Day, its significance, and the importance of remembrance. We read ANZAC Girl and used this text to explore perspective and historical understanding. We also wrote our own diary entries, focusing on recount structure and emotional language, stepping back in time.
Home Learning Home Learning begins this week. Children will receive Home Learning each Monday, due the following Monday. Students are expected to engage in nightly reading, spelling, diary completion, and additional Maths and Literacy tasks. Answers will be provided in the weekly newsletter. We kindly ask families to mark the learning with your child each week and initial once completed. Thank you for your continued support.
