Foundation News

Welcome back to school for Term 2 in Foundation! There were lots of happy students who arrived at school last Monday after a two week break for the holidays. It was lovely to see the students re-connecting with their friends. Everyone seems well rested and eager to continue learning lots of new things in the coming term. Mrs Wenckowski went off to the Year 5/6 camp at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat for part of the week so FLW were in the safe hands of Miss Jenna and FOS were well looked after by Mrs Dillon as Miss Sargent enjoys her travels in Europe and Ireland.

As writers, the Foundation students had an opportunity to draw and write about their holiday adventures. Using a template they each illustrated what they did, where they went, who they saw and what they didn’t like about the holidays. We were successful writers by drawing detailed pictures, orally constructing sentences about our drawings and recording some initial, middle and ending sounds for words we wanted to write in our sentences. We are trying very hard to remember to put a full stop at the end of the sentences we write.

As inquirers and people of faith we have begun to find out about our patron saint St Fidelis and we have started to explore the significance of ANZAC Day and the wearing of red poppies. We will continue to find out more about St Fidelis and ANZAC Day during this week beginning with a special ANZAC Day service which was held yesterday in the school yard.

This week we will be learning about…

Numeracy- Part/Part/Whole as we learn to break up numbers into two parts ie 2 and 3 make 5

Reading- revision of sounds m,s,t,a,p,i,f,r and the introduction of o,c,d, stretching out words, blending the sounds together and reading tricky words

Writing- writing about our experiences, recording different sounds we can hear in the words we want to write and using full stops

Inquiry- tuning into our new inquiry about how we have changed

Religion- Continuing to learn more about our Patron Saint- St Fidelis
