Year 1 News

Welcome back to Term 2! It was wonderful to see everyone’s smiling faces as we returned to school last week for yet another busy but exciting term.
As writers, we tuned in to Adjectives. We learnt that adjectives are words that are used to describe nouns, and they give us more information and add detail to our sentences. As thinkers, we used our five senses to brainstorm different words that described some objects and animals, such as teddy bears, lions, balls and fruit. We came up with so much exciting vocabulary, such as squishy, sour, tangy, round, enormous, stumpy and frightening! This week, we will begin using adjectives in sentences, and as readers, locate them in different texts.
As inquirers, we began to explore our big question, ‘How have toys and technology changed over time, and why does it matter?’ As thinkers and communicators, we engaged in the thinking routine Chalk Talk. Each sheet had a different word or question, and we took turns to quietly record our first thinking about Toys and Technology and how they have changed over time. We can’t wait to explore different toys and technology from the past and compare them to what we use now. We will also consider the impact they have on how we work, play, live and communicate.
As researchers, we explored the significance of Anzac Day. We looked at pictures and listened to an information text, to help us find out about the key events and symbols of Anzac Day. We then made our thinking visible by recording facts and discoveries. As thinkers, some of us engaged in the thinking routine Colour-Symbol-Image. We learnt that poppies are not the only symbol of remembrance, and unpacked the meaning of the Anzac biscuits, the medals and the slouch hat.
This week, we will be learning about…
