Wow, can you believe we are at the end of term 1!? It has been wonderful to see the Year 1/2 cohort grow in confidence and make progress in their learning.

Reading and Writing

In Reading, students have been exploring both informative and imaginative texts. We have been engaging with the informative text Ask Aunty, which has helped students build their understanding of factual texts and how information can be shared. Additionally, students have been enjoying imaginative texts through Aesop’s Fables, where they have explored storytelling, characters, and important life lessons.

In Writing, our focus has been on strengthening sentence structure and language use. Students have been learning to use pronouns and adjectives to add detail and clarity to their writing. They have also been working on writing complete sentences, ensuring they include verbs and use their knowledge of letter sounds to support spelling and expression.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been developing their understanding of partitioning numbers. We have used counters and tens frames to help break numbers into smaller parts, supporting a strong foundation in number sense. Students have also been introduced to bar models as a visual way to represent and partition numbers.

To support learning, we have incorporated a range of hands-on, concrete materials through engaging maths games. These activities not only reinforce mathematical concepts but also help students build important social skills such as turn-taking, cooperation, and teamwork all while having fun!

Humanities

In Humanities, students have been learning about the environment around them and developing an understanding of Indigenous seasons. This has encouraged students to think about how the natural world changes and how people connect with the land.

As part of this learning, we enjoyed a walk to Gresswell Forest, where students had the opportunity to engage with Country. This experience allowed them to connect their classroom learning to the real world, noticing changes in the environment and reflecting on what they have learned.

Lastly, the Year 1/2 students participated in the Little Legends program as part of our MiniBoss Kick Start incursion, where they focused on building confidence, showing kindness, and strengthening connections within their classroom community.

We are very proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity our Year 1/2 students continue to show in their learning. We look forward to the Easter festivities and hope you all have an amazing and well-deserved break! See you in term 2!
