Miss Jessica Skerry

I hope everyone had a wonderful term and are looking forward to a fun and relaxing Easter break.

Thank you so much for all your support during the Welcome Night. It was amazing to see so many of our school community gathering together despite the wet weather. The library stall was able to raise $176 for our school library. This money will allow us to purchase a number of requested titles that are not sold by a regular supplier. Thank You!!!

But wait, the fun is not all over yet.

This year, the library will also be hosting a Lamont Book Fair in May. The fair will arrive on Wednesday 13th of May and leave the following Wednesday on the 20th. This is a great opportunity for students to explore books from alternative publishers.

Students will be given a chance to browse the fair during class time and then the following week they will have a chance to purchase during school hours. The fair will be open before and after school for parents to come and purchase. Lamont Book Fairs offers cash and EFT sales for those who come to the fair in person as well as an online option for those who are unable to attend in person.

More information about the Fair will be sent out via Compass closer to the date.

A week later, on May the 27th, Australia will celebrate the ALIA National Simultaneous Storytime. Where schools, day cares, libraries and even people at home across Australia and New Zealand will sit down at 12 noon to read “Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller” at the same time. This event promotes unity and a love of reading. This year marks the 26th year and each year is bigger and better than the last. This year’s book was chosen for its “heart and grit” as the characters face new challenges.

Then later in Term 3, The Children’s Book Council of Australia will be celebrating the work of our Aussie authors and illustrators during Book Week. The theme of book week this August is “A Symphony of Stories”.

Wishing you all the best during the holidays.

Thanks for your support and Happy Reading,

Jessica
