Our Year 5 students have had a busy and rewarding start to the year, engaging in a wide range of learning experiences across the curriculum.
In English, students have been developing their writing skills through narrative, and persuasive texts. They have explored how to build detailed sentences using different parts of speech, experimented with dialogue, and strengthened their ability to clearly express ideas
Reading has been a highlight this term, with students exploring the topic of World War I through a range of non-fiction texts, alongside the class novel War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. This powerful combination has helped students build historical knowledge while also developing empathy and deeper understanding.
In Mathematics, students have been strengthening their number skills, including multiplication, division, factors and multiples, while also applying their learning to solve real-world problems. They have explored perimeter and area in Measurement and developed their ability to interpret and create data displays in Statistics and Probability.
Through our Knowledge Rich Curriculum in Humanities, students have been learning about life in Australia during the 1800s. They have explored colonial Australia, including the experiences of settlers, convicts and First Nations peoples, as well as significant events such as the gold rush and the Eureka Stockade. This has helped students build a deeper understanding of how Australia has developed over time.
Wellbeing has also been an important focus, with students participating in Respectful Relationships lessons. They have been learning to identify and manage their emotions, recognise their personal strengths, and develop positive coping strategies. These lessons support students to build confidence, resilience and respectful relationships with others.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, effort and growth shown by our Year 5 students throughout Term 1.
