Incursions and Excursions

Year 12 Legal Studies Excursion
Our Ringwood Court excursion was great. They really looked after us at Ringwood. We had a court officer with us for the first part of the morning directing us to appropriate cases.
We began the morning with a talk from the officer, who addressed any questions, prepared the students well for what they would see and then we had the Magistrate lead talk to the students until they had to start their cases.
The Magistrate was fantastic with the students and they asked quite a number of great questions which they had prepared.
These students were fantastic ambassadors for the school today. The Magistrate told them they were lucky to be at such a good school and had teachers who arrange such great experiences for them. Then praised them for their lovely manners and receptive behaviour and sound knowledge. They certainly made an impression and reflected Warrandyte High School in a positive way.
I was so proud of them, as Magistrates can be a bit intimidating. Vicky Panagos has done such a great job preparing them; they have a solid grounding.
The Magistrate also gave guidance on how to get into the profession, discussed strategies for course selection. Encouraging them to consider moving across from other university studies once they build up their marks as it's difficult to get into Law straight from school. They explained how it doesn't matter which university they do their degree at. All very helpful.
This excursion set them up for their studies of the Victorian Court system in a positive way and they are now keen to get on with their course.
