A Strong Start to a Year of Strengthening
Dear Warrandyte High School Community
Welcome to the first edition of the WHS Gang Gang iNewsletter for 2026.
I would like to begin by saying welcome to the 2026 school year. It has been a pleasure to see our students return with energy, optimism and a clear sense of purpose as we begin what we have characterised as our year of ‘Strengthening’ at Warrandyte High School.
Building on the significant growth we achieved last year, 2026 is about consolidating what we know works well and intentionally strengthening the foundations that support high-quality teaching and learning, student wellbeing and community connection. From classrooms, to the yard, to school events, there is already a strong sense of purpose and shared commitment to continuous improvement. I ask our students to continue modelling our high expectations, particularly around engagement in their learning, school attendance and the demonstration of our school values.
I would like to warmly welcome the three new members of our teaching staff – Melanie Soklevski – Maths, Alexzondra Newitt – Humanities, and Rachel Teng – Science. Their transition to our school has been smooth and the positive impact they are already making in their areas of teaching is evident.
I would also like to acknowledge our 2026 School Captains. We are proud of the leadership they are already demonstrating and the positive example they are setting for our whole student cohort. Their optimism, initiative and commitment to student voice and leadership reflect the very best of our school community. I look forward to working closely with them throughout the year as we continue make our school a place where every student feels supported to learn, grow and thrive.
The start of the year has not been without its challenges. The recent Extreme Fire Danger Rating days and the resulting disruption to school operations have understandably created complexity for students, families and staff. I would like to thank our community for the patience, flexibility and understanding shown during these days. I am grateful for the way our community has navigated these circumstances.
Despite this disruption, the resilience of our students and staff has been evident. These moments remind us that strengthening is not only about structures and systems, but also about the way we respond together when faced with adversity.
Throughout this year, our focus will be on strengthening consistency in teaching practice, strengthening student voice and agency, strengthening wellbeing supports, and strengthening partnerships with families and our wider community. These priorities reflect our shared belief that strong outcomes are built on strong relationships, clear expectations and a shared embrace of our school values.
I look forward to working closely with students, staff and families as we move through the year together. Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in our school. I am confident that together, 2026 will be a year where we not only build on our success but strengthen it in meaningful and lasting ways.
Warm regards
Luke Ventieri
