House Swimming Sports

On Thursday, February 19th, Warrandyte High students and staff gathered at the Boroondara Sports Complex dressed head-to-toe in house colours, ready for another unforgettable House Swimming Carnival.
From the moment students arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, colour and plenty of healthy rivalry.
With ideal conditions setting the scene, students threw themselves into the day racing hard, showing diving prowess, collecting valuable points and cheering passionately. Whether chasing podium finishes, striving for age champion recognition or simply giving an event a go, participation and house pride were on full display across all year levels.

A highlight once again was the ever-popular bombing competition off the 3m diving board. The crowd gathered in anticipation as students showcased their biggest and boldest entries, creating impressive splashes and even bigger cheers. The much-loved noodle race also returned, bringing plenty of laughter, determination and fierce competition as houses battled it out for final crucial double points.

This year also saw the introduction of a new novelty event. In relay format, each house selected four swimmers at a time to race out and retrieve either a floating or sunken object, returning it to their house bucket before tagging the next house member. Over five fast-paced minutes, the pool was a hive of activity, with participation at its highest and rivalry reaching another level. A remarkable 280 floating balls and 84 sunken objects were collected across the event, all contributing valuable points toward house totals. There was clear evidence of clever strategy along with the occasional creative interpretation of the rules, but above all, it was fantastic to see so many students actively involved, working together and embracing the competitive spirit of the day.

After a full day of racing and spirited support, Stiggant House dominated the pool to take out the 2026 title for the fourth consecutive year in commanding fashion.
Final Scores:

The margin reflected not only strong performances in the pool, but also consistent participation and outstanding house spirit throughout the day.
Each house recognised one student for their exceptional effort, performance and contribution to their team:

These students demonstrated leadership, resilience and commitment across multiple events and should be extremely proud of their achievements. Special mention to Jack Brennan who broke the 17 male 50m backstroke record by 1 second which was set in 2020.
While competition in the pool was fierce, House Swimming continues to be about much more than times and points. The day celebrated teamwork, encouragement and connection across year levels, with students embracing the opportunity to represent their house with pride.
The Best Dressed Competition once again added colour and creativity to the carnival, with students showcasing imaginative costumes and bold house-themed outfits. The costumes by students were so fantastic that it became near impossible to pick just a few winners - so additional winners were selected. Congratulations to our best dressed winners
Samantha Winchester and Eve Carlin - Crocodile Hunters
Lasenya Issacs, Jess Russel and Gabby Hodgson - Kath, Kim and Sharon
Isla Thomas, Gabe Kovacs and Marlo Whelan - Smurfs
Darcy Welsh, Lilly Scott-Bommert, Teagan Potter and Zoe Whelan - Mermaids

There were also many more highly commended dress ups including cheer leaders and Hippies.

The carnival concluded with the always entertaining Staff vs. Year 12 Student Inflatable Crocodile Relay. With plenty of laughter, playful tactics and competitive determination from both sides, it was the perfect way to finish a high-energy day. The friendly rivalry and shared enjoyment captured exactly what House events are all about.

Congratulations to all students for their enthusiasm, effort and sportsmanship, and thank you to staff for their organisation and support in delivering another outstanding carnival. If this is how we begin 2026, House Athletics has a lot to live up to! Bring on the next chapter of house competition.
