Congratulations Class of 2025

Although only a very small cohort, I'm really pleased to say that almost all our Year 12 students that applied for a tertiary place received an offer. Whilst there is still another round of offers, as I write the following tertiary places were offered to our students. When I say "offered", it's because we don't yet know how many have been accepted or deferred until next year.

If you click on the table, you'll see that a pleasing number of students got their first or second preference, and that they applied for a variety of courses, mostly at Melbourne campuses, with LaTrobe being the most popular this year.

Other students are currently continuing, or have started apprenticeships in a variety of fields - building and construction, mechanics, plumbing and electrical, to name a few.

I have caught up with a few students who are taking a Gap Year, working in full or part time jobs, with some saving up to travel. Whatever our graduates have planned, we wish them all the very best.

Work Experience 2026

The dates for Year 10 Work Experience in 2026 are June 22 to June 26, Term 2 week 10 (although we are flexible and can accommodate other dates). Year 10 students should be actively seeking work experience as it is a compulsory and important part of the Year 10 curriculum. Whilst not every student can get a placement in their dream job, it is important to undertake a formal placement. Some Year 10's may have part time work, but still need to undertake official school-based work experience. Students not only gain technical skills (e.g. if you are working in IT, you may be learning how to program computers or at a hair dresser learning how to wash hair), but any work experience will help you gain "employability" skills such as :

•Communication

•Collaboration

•Punctuality

•Adaptability

•Teamwork

•Problem solving

•Initiative

•Planning and organising

•Decision making

•Self-management

Students will learn more during their Explore class, with career planning and exploration activities (students who miss Explore should always follow up on the class lesson plan.) There are also regular notices on Compass Newsfeed and in our Careers Newsletter.

If you are in the position to offer work experience to our Year 10s, please contact me at careers@warrandytehigh.vic.edu.au

VET VM

Last week, Year 11 and 12 VM students were visited by Jake and Madi from the Gateway LLEN (Local Learning and Employment Network), who took them through some pointers on how to find a work placement, which is part of the VM course. We already have a couple of students following up with them as suitable positions have been located. Again, if you would like to offer an extended work placement of a month, a term or a semester (every Friday) for our Year 11 or 12 VM students, please get in touch.

Head Start

Congratulations to those students who have been accepted into a School-based Apprentice or Traineeship (SBAT). This is a DE initiative, whereby students are helped to fast track their career, by attending apprentice-level TAFE and working on the job, whilst completing their VCE-VM. We have two students undertaking a Hairdressing apprenticeship, others in Commercial Cookery/Baking and Carpentry. It's not too late to consider this pathway. Again, contact me for more information.
