Languages

Languages at Box Hill High School have flourished this term, with students embracing cultural learning, linguistic challenge and opportunities to connect with the wider community. 

We congratulate David, Han and Ranit, who represented BHHS at the Victorian Chinese Speaking and Writing Competition on 31 October. Competing against strong candidates from across the state, they crafted their speeches on the spot and presented them with confidence before peers, teachers and families. A special commendation goes to Ranit, who received a merit award for her outstanding performance. 

On 20 November, Chinese Year 9 students enjoyed an excursion to the city, beginning with a lunch and followed by a thought-provoking visit to the Immigration Museum. The day deepened students’ understanding of the diverse experiences that have shaped Australia. 

German students in Years 9 & 11 sat the internationally recognised Fit in Deutsch examinations on 25 November. Their preparation and determination were evident, and they represented our school with distinction. 

To celebrate the first year of German at BHHS, our Year 7 students took part in a lively cultural day on 2 December. Through engaging games and activities, they applied their growing language skills and learnt about the PASCH network and the Goethe-Institute.

We are also pleased to announce that BHHS is planning a new German Study Tour in 2026. We are looking ahead to fresh opportunities for cultural immersion. A draft itinerary includes a language course in Berlin and visits to Leipzig, Munich and Neuschwanstein Castle. Families are invited to submit an Expression of Interest by 4 December and attend our Information Session on 11 December to learn more about this exciting initiative.  All of these experiences would not be possible without our wonderful Languages teachers. We thank Ms Jiang, Ms Lee, Ms Lin, Ms Morris, Mr Smith, Ms Xu and Ms Zeng for their hard work and dedication.
