Junior School Report
by Mr Nic Barca, Head of Junior School
What an amazing year in the Junior School! I am so incredibly proud of all the efforts from our students and teachers, the highs, the lows, and everything in between that has strengthened our resilience and reminded us what a vibrant, connected community we are.
Term 4 has been nothing short of action-packed. We kicked things off by welcoming our 2026 Year 7s onsite for the very first time at Transition Evening. Their excitement was contagious, and it was wonderful to see so many families engaging with our programs and meeting the teachers who will guide them through their first year of secondary school. This flowed seamlessly into Orientation Day, where our team worked tirelessly to ensure every new student felt confident, supported and excited about beginning their journey at our school next year.
Alongside this, we have been deep in preparation mode: refining Home Group structures, reviewing friendship preferences, organising elective rehearsals, and thoughtfully shaping next year’s classes. These behind-the-scenes processes take enormous care and collaboration, and I want to acknowledge just how much effort the Junior School staff put in to get this right for every student.
A standout highlight of the term was the Year 8 Camp at The Summit in Trafalgar. Our students embraced every challenge thrown their way – from giant swings to team-building initiatives – and demonstrated courage, leadership, and genuine support for one another. The camp perfectly embodied what we want our Junior School to be known for: community, grit, and the willingness to step outside comfort zones. It was a brilliant way to cap off their final chapter in the Junior School before heading into Year 9.
As we move into the final stretch of the year, we’re looking forward to a range of end-of-year activities designed to celebrate achievements, friendships, and all the moments that have shaped 2025. It’s a wonderful time to pause, reflect, and congratulate our students on everything they’ve accomplished.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible team that makes the Junior School what it is: Emily, Bec, Laurel, and Jess. Their professionalism, energy, and passion for student wellbeing and learning are the reason our programs thrive. A special thank you as well to Michael, whose guidance and support as Assistant Principal has been invaluable throughout the year.
2025 marks my fifth and final year as Head of Junior School. It has been the absolute privilege to lead this community, work with such dedicated staff, and support thousands of young people as they take their first steps in secondary school. I am deeply grateful for every moment.
Next year I am delighted to be passing the baton to Emily Wilkinson, who will step into the role of Head of Junior School. Her leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to students make her the perfect person to guide the next chapter. I’ll be moving into a new role as Head of Senior School, and I’m excited to continue supporting our students as they progress through their final years.
Thank you to our families, students, and staff for another extraordinary year. I look forward to celebrating with you all as we finish strongly and step confidently into 2026.
