At the beginning of Term 4, the library launched a new and innovative gamified literacy experience with all Year 7 students. Students were tasked to solve the murder of Lila Verve, a social media influencer and each week clues were released and displayed on a crime board, that was set up in the entrance of the library. These clues included emails, phone records, insurance documents, witness statements, bank records, autopsy reports, receipts, crime scene analysis reports and much more.
Our crime board attracted students from all year levels. They were curious. They were competitive. They were reading.

This fresh, creative way to teach multimodal literacy had students thinking critically, asking questions, summarising information, looking for detail, recording information, working collaboratively and communicating their findings; all with the aim to identify the person who did not have an alibi and thus was the murderer.

We had so much fun delivering this and were overwhelmed by the engagement of our student detectives. A huge congratulations to everyone who got involved and to those who successfully identified the real killer.
On Saturday 29th November, Box Hill High School took out fourth place at the National Jigsaw Puzzle Championship that was held at the MSAC Arena, at Albert Park. Crowned State Champions earlier in the year, our student team; Victoria Year 7, Gemma Year 11, Chloe Year 7 and Milly Year 11 competed against teams from right across Australia and took out fourth place in what was a tough field.

1st Sydney Girls High School, NSW 25 minutes
2nd Shenton College, WA 28 minutes
3rd Ipswich State High School, QLD 32 minutes
4th Box Hill High School, VIC 38 minutes
5th Orana Steiner School, ACT 44 minutes
6th Hallett Cove School, SA 50 minutes
The team completed a 500-piece puzzle in 38mins, almost halving their State winning time of 62 mins 19 sec. In what was an incredibly tough competition, the students displayed exceptional teamwork, problem solving and the ability to think under pressure.
Puzzle Club launched at BHHS earlier in the year and students started recording their times to complete a 500-piece puzzle. It is a wonderful, inclusive club that offers students opportunities to practise problem solving and teamwork skills in a competitive, supportive and fun environment and we hope that it continues to grow in 2026.

2025 marked 50 years that the Vinnies soup van had been in operation, delivering food and essential items to those in need and this is why we decided that it was the charity that we would support this Christmas.
Thank you everyone for all the generous donations under our Library Christmas Tree. Your kindness and generosity will have a huge impact to others in our community doing it tough. Thank you.
