Group 21

Term 3 has flown by, and Group 21 has certainly kept busy. Our theme for this term, ‘Feathers and Fur,’ provided many opportunities to learn about Australian animals, including wombats, koalas, kookaburras and cockatoos. Students also enjoyed participating in plant-based science investigations as part of Science Week and explored their creativity while celebrating NAIDOC Week.
Our life skills programme continued to be a focus this term. Group 21 have done incredibly well at developing skills that promote independence. They have practised putting dishes and cutlery away as this is a key part of washing up or unloading the dishwasher. They have also sorted laundry into light, dark and colours and have been doing laundry each week. Students have also been learning how to sort rubbish into the correct bins and have developed their sweeping skills, helping to build confidence in everyday household tasks.
In Health, students explored the concepts of public and private body parts, places and behaviours in a respectful and age-appropriate way. They learned to identify private spaces, such as bedrooms, bathrooms and toilets, and reinforced the important message that private parts are for private places. As part of this, students also increased their awareness of personal hygiene and had opportunities to explore products such as hand wash, shower gel and deodorant.
Group 21 has also enjoyed spending time in the garden using our new equipment. Students have worked hard during sweeping, digging and weeding activities, developing practical skills in a setting that reflects a workplace environment. These experiences provide valuable opportunities to build independence, responsibility and teamwork while caring for our outdoor spaces.
In addition to classroom learning, students have continued to engage in a variety of specialist programmes, including swimming with Chris and Fiona, Music with Chrissy, Art with Stacy, and Physical Education with Dom.
We are proud of all that Group 21 has achieved this term. We hope you all have a good break in preparation for the fourth and final term!
