Grade 3 Community News

Dear Grade 3 Families,

Welcome to our Week 4 newsletter! It has been wonderful to see students continuing to settle confidently into classroom routines and approach their learning with enthusiasm and positivity. We are incredibly proud of the effort students are showing across all learning areas and the way they continue to support one another in the classroom each day.

Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring students arrive at school ready to learn and participate positively in our morning Circle Time sessions. These continue to be a valuable way to begin each day, helping students feel connected, calm, and prepared for learning.

English

Text-Level Reading

Over the past fortnight, students have continued reading our class novel Uncle Xbox by Dr Jared Thomas. Students have been exploring the experiences of the characters, discussing important themes within the text, and making thoughtful connections between the novel and their own lives. Through class discussions and comprehension activities, students are developing their ability to infer, predict, and explain their thinking using evidence from the text.

Sentence-Level Writing

Students have continued strengthening their sentence-writing skills by focusing on creating more detailed and engaging sentences. They have been revising the use of conjunctions such as becauseso, and but, while also adding descriptive language and extra detail to improve sentence fluency and clarity.

Text-Level Writing

In writing, students are continuing their work on factual recounts. Over the past two weeks, they have been learning how to structure and write detailed body paragraphs by organising information clearly and logically. Students are working hard to include accurate facts, topic-specific vocabulary, and interesting details to engage their readers while maintaining a clear recount structure.

Mathematics

Over the past fortnight, students have completed their summative assessments in both Number and Measurement/Geometry. We are very pleased with the results across the cohort and proud of the effort students demonstrated throughout the assessment process. These assessments have provided students with an opportunity to showcase their understanding of the concepts covered so far this term, including place value, addition and subtraction strategies, time, statistics, and geometric reasoning.

Students have continued to build confidence in explaining their mathematical thinking and applying a range of strategies to solve problems independently.

Humanities

Our Journey Around Australia unit continues to take students on an exciting exploration of our country. So far, students have visited Tasmania, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, and New South Wales through their classroom investigations and travel journals.

Students have explored the significant landmarks, natural environments, and cultural features of each state and territory while developing their map-reading and geographical inquiry skills. They have also been learning about the rich histories and ongoing connections First Nations Peoples have to Country and Place across Australia. Through discussion, mapping activities, and research tasks, students are building a deeper understanding of Australia’s geography, culture, and communities.

Important Reminder – Aboriginal Storytelling Incursion

A reminder that our upcoming incursion focusing on Aboriginal storytelling will be taking place soon. Please ensure that both consent and payment have been completed through Compass as soon as possible to ensure your child does not miss out on this valuable learning experience.
