Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,

 

Our students are doing their absolute best this term, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. As we go through the year, we are seeing huge improvements in student learning of routines and new content. 

 

 

English

In InitiaLit this term, we have been focusing on understanding texts using a variety of comprehension strategies. This has included learning about the features of persuasive, imaginative, and informative texts, as well as how to create connections between texts, the world, and our own personal experiences. We have also been continuing our work on spelling rules. Our students are doing an incredible job!

 

 

Maths

In maths this term, our students are continuing to develop their understanding of numbers. To do this, we have been learning to skip-count to find the total of a collection and to count equal groups. Our students have also been learning tricky addition and subtraction with a focus on regrouping. Measurement has also been explored this term using hands-on materials. Our students have just begun learning about how to use formal units to measure objects. They’re doing great with his tricky concept!

 

 

Humanities

Our grade 2 students are loving learning about Geography. To explore this topic, our students have been using software to find our local position in relation to important places. Our students have also recently participated in an incursion that deepened their understanding of Australia’s First Nations peoples. Our students have shown great enthusiasm for this topic and are making excellent progress!

Reminders:

 

  • Arrive on time - School starts at 8:45 am. Please ensure that your child is at their classroom by this time, ready for learning to begin. 

 

  • Reading at home- Grade 2 students should continue to read at home every night with a grown- up! Not only does this help with fluency, but it is also a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their super reading skills.
