Dear Tarneit Rise Primary School Families and Friends

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you had a restful but active holiday. We are very excited to begin another term of PE and continue watching the students develop and grow their skills.

Student Shoutout

Cross Country Team

Massive Shoutout to our cross-country team, who competed last Wednesday. Everyone ran so well! Was great to see everyone running hard and putting in their best effort. Special Shoutout to our 12-year-old girls' team for all finishing within the top 10 and making it through to the next round! Well done to the 11 students who progressed to the next round! Progressing students: Viyona, Eva, Keya, Chloe, Harper, Dilreet, Gurman, Dipson, Kimaylah, Sherdil, and Bisman.

Futsal Teams

Well done to our Boys futsal teams who went and competed at the West Melbourne Futsal competition on Monday! All the boys played their hardest and gave everything that they had. Our Grade 4 and Grade 6 teams made the semi-finals but unfortunately did not progress. Well done for your efforts, we are very proud!

Preps:

The Preps are continuing the term by learning to dribble. They have been using their penguin feet to control the ball and move it around a circuit of cones without touching any. Following their dribbling, they have also been practicing their kicking. Focusing on striking the ball with the top of their foot and making sure they are stepping next to the ball in the lead up. Students also completed their fundamental Movement assessment this week, which shows how well students can transition through various movements and focuses on the technique that they use while performing.

Grade 1s and 2s:

Grade 1s and 2s have been practicing their dribbling with a ball at their feet. They have been making sure that their feet are angled facing outward so that they are protecting the ball while they move. This week, the students showed how they can navigate the Fundamental Movement Course and transition through various movements and skills.

Grade 3s and 4s:

Grade 3s have been practicing their ball movement and dribbling along with dummies and feints. They have been working strategically with their teammates to isolate defenders in a 3 vs 2 and then find ways around them in a 1v1.

Grade 4s have been focusing on passing the ball on the run and using angles to their advantage. They have also been working on how to beat defenders in a 1v1 by using feints and dummies.

Grades 5s and 6s:

Grade 5s and 6s have continued their invasion game unit and have been focusing on their dribble and game play. Students have been working on changing the angle of their run with the ball and keeping their eyes on defenders so they are aware of where they are.

Team of the Week

Team of the week is a starting 11 of students who have shown the school values in all areas of PE. They may not always be the most talented but they have the best attitudes and eagerness to learn when it comes to PE.

Athletics

Over the past year, we’ve continued to grow the Next Athletics program across Victoria in schools, athletics clubs, and leisure centers. We are currently offering an after-school program in Altona, at the Little Athletics Club venue. The term program is run on Mondays beginning next week on Monday, 27th April, 3:45-4:45.

We are also running a Term Two promotion for this program at a reduced rate of just $15/session to make it more inclusive for families.
