Senior A Water Polo

(Report submitted by Mr Jon Harmer, Water Polo Coordinator)

Congratulations to the Blackfriars Open A Water Polo team on a well-deserved win in the Inaugural SAAS ( Sports Association for Adelaide Schools ) A Grade Water Polo Grand Final played last Friday afternoon.  Whilst Pembroke and PAC battled out for third place over at St Peter's (PAC won), we defeated a very determined St Peter's 6-3 at Adelaide Aquatic Centre. Every player contributed. Co–Captains Brayden Addison and Jesse Taylor were outstanding; both playing key roles in defence and offence respectively.  Relatively 'new' players to senior Water Polo, Year 8s Declan Hillman and Jack Slaven also accounted for themselves very well at this senior level. However, it was goalkeeper, Ben Richmond, who stole the show, saving the best to last. Ben played  'out of his skin' saving a penalty and several 'one on none' breaks, to keep us in front of the Saints boys. Well done Ben!

Spare a thought also for Lachy Fowler, who was very unwell on the afternoon of the game and had to withdraw at the last minute. No problem Lachy, there is a premiership medal waiting for you too ! 😊

Lastly, thank you boys on being gracious winners on Friday. We have a long and at times fierce rivalry with Saints. To win in the way you did and not be 'in their face' after the game was fantastic and a credit to you all.
